What separates good touch controls from frustrating ones

Touch controls are the quiet reason some games feel amazing and others feel broken. After years of mis-taps, I've come to value a few things above flashy graphics entirely.

Resizable and movable buttons are the big one. Everyone's hands and phones differ, and a layout that works on a compact phone feels cramped on a tablet. The best games, like the racer Neon Drift Rally, just let you drag everything where you want it.

Dead zones matter too. A good virtual stick ignores the tiny jitter of your thumb so you don't drift when you mean to stand still. Games that skip this feel twitchy and tiring over long sessions.

And finally: generous tap targets. Turn-based games get this right because they can afford big buttons. Fast games that cram tiny icons into corners are asking for rage. If you're trying a new game, spend your first minutes in the control settings — it's worth it.
